# CellarCool AH1: the cellar is warmer than the high alarm allows

AH1 is CellarCool's high temperature alarm.

## What AH1 actually means.

AH1 is CellarCool's high temperature alarm. Its margin depends on the controller: 4°F above setpoint on the CM2500 and Ultimate-R, 8°F on the 3500-S and 5000-S splits, and 10° on the CX, which reads air rather than a bottle. It means the unit is not keeping up, from a room that lets in heat, an exhaust space that is too hot, an undersized unit or a unit that is failing to cool.

What to do when AH1 shows on the wine cellar cooling unit

### Kind of code Temperature and alarms

The controller saw the cellar go past a high or low limit and raised an alarm, sometimes holding the worst reading it logged while the house was empty. The reason can be as small as the cellar door left ajar after a tasting or a long outage, a room gaining heat from new lights or a sunny glass wall, or as serious as cooling that has stopped. Keep the door shut and read a thermometer on a middle rack before touching anything; the alarm is a warning about the collection, not yet a diagnosis.

### Usually leads to Cellar cooling load and room check

Measuring the cellar as the cooling unit sees it: insulation, vapor barrier, door, glass and the heat load, to show whether the unit can ever keep up.

### Shows up as Wine Cellar Too Warm

A wine cellar too warm shows up slowly: the room smells of the house instead of cool stone, a bottle picked from a middle rack feels barely cooler than your hand, and the wall thermometer has crept from the mid 50s into the 60s over a week.

### Make CellarCool

Service for CellarCool systems when the wine room drifts warm, turns dry or the unit starts and stops every few minutes.

## Before you book, in this order.

Each step comes from CellarCool's own guidance for AH1 on its wine cellar cooling units. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Check the cellar door and any windows are closed and sealed; if the room passes about 70°F, move the best bottles somewhere cooler.

02

Check the space the unit exhausts into; CellarCool rates each unit for a set difference between cellar and exhaust air.

03

If the unit was just installed or restarted, allow it time to bring the room down.

04

If AH1 keeps returning with the room sealed, book a visit to check airflow, probe calibration and the refrigeration side.

### Still there?

It usually turns into [cellar cooling load and room check](https://winecellarrepair.center/services/cellar-cooling-load-and-room-check/). Book with the code and the model number.

### What not to do

AH1 is a reading about the cellar, not a named broken part. On a CX the 10° margin is wide, so an AH1 there means a larger drift than the same code on a Ceiling Mount unit.

## Questions about AH1.

### Can I clear AH1 myself?

Check the cellar door and any windows are closed and sealed; if the room passes about 70°F, move the best bottles somewhere cooler. If it comes back, it needs a visit.

### Why is the CellarCool AH1 margin different on my CX?

The CX reads cellar air, which swings more than a probe in liquid, so CellarCool sets its alarm 10° from the setpoint instead of 4°F or 8°F.

### Could the room behind my CellarCool cause AH1?

Yes. CellarCool explains that each unit cools only up to a set temperature difference, so an exhaust space that is too warm limits what it can do.

### Does a new CellarCool show AH1 during start-up?

On the 3500-S and 5000-S splits, CellarCool blocks temperature alarms for the first 10 hours after the unit is plugged in. An AH1 well after that is worth checking.
