When the evaporator probe senses about 26°F, the compressor stops and the fans keep moving air to melt frost from the coil. The unit returns to cooling on its own, and a short wait follows so the compressor does not short-cycle. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit. 01 Leave the unit alone; the cycle ends by itself. 02 If the screen shows dEF very often, clean the evaporator filter and check the air paths. 03 If an Ad2 or Ad3 alarm appears alongside frequent cycles, book a visit. ### Cleared? The controller has stopped showing the code and the cellar is drifting back to its set point without any new part. If the code returns within the week, or the room creeps warm again, book a visit and tell us it came back. ### What not to do dEF is not an error code. On SC PRO units, holding the up arrow for about five seconds starts one, but only if the evaporator is below 40°F. ### Why is the fan running while my WhisperKOOL shows dEF? The fans keep moving cellar air over the coil to melt the frost while the compressor rests. ### How long does a WhisperKOOL defrost last?
