In 1854 Benjamin Wilson set up Lake Vineyard, his ranch and winery, on Rancho Huerta de Cuati, land that became part of San Marino. ## What San Marino does to a wine cellar cooling unit. His son-in-law James de Barth Shorb named the property San Marino in 1873, after his grandfather's Maryland plantation, itself named for the old European republic. Principal parts of San Marino fell within an 1838 Mexican land grant of 128 acres to Victoria Bartolmea Reid, who sold her rancho to Wilson in 1854. The botanical gardens around the Huntington Library cover about 120 acres and hold more than a dozen themed gardens. [All of Los Angeles](https://winecellarrepair.center/locations/los-angeles/) ### Older housing stock Older houses with stone or brick basements make natural cellars that stay cool, but old masonry wicks moisture from the ground, so a cooling unit there often battles damp and mold more than heat, and the room's vapor barrier is checked first. ### Designed wine rooms A showpiece wine room built with fine wood racks and stone needs its humidity held between about 50 and 70 percent to keep wood and corks sound, so the repair checks the humidity control as closely as the temperature. ### Family houses Family houses often put the cellar next to a laundry or a garage, and the unit's exhaust side collects lint and dust from those rooms, so cleaning the condenser coil every spring keeps it steady through the summer. ## A visit in San Marino.
