More than 3 million cubic yards of fill, from World Trade Center excavation and other digs plus sand dredged off Staten Island, created the ground under Battery Park City in the 1970s. ## What Battery Park City does to a wine cellar cooling unit. Sandy’s surge in October 2012 put the ball fields and parts of West Street under water. The northern residential section is made up entirely of 20- to 45-story buildings in shades of orange brick. By 2018 thirty residential buildings stood in Battery Park City and no further construction was planned. [All of New York Metro](https://winecellarrepair.center/locations/new-york/) ### Tower living A wine room in a tower has to put its heat somewhere the building allows, and a unit whose exhaust ends in a closed utility closet breathes its own warm air until the cellar drifts toward 65, so the first check up here is where that heat really goes. ### Newer developments A builder wine room may have a glass door and wall but little insulation behind the drywall, and a unit sized for a sealed room works nonstop, so a room check often finds the insulation and vapor barrier missing. ### On the water Along salt water the air corrodes a cellar unit's condenser coil and fan from the outside in, and a split condenser on a seaside terrace or a through-the-wall unit venting toward the water loses capacity year after year until the cellar cannot hold 55. ## A visit in Battery Park City.
