Weigh a cellar repair against two things: what a new system for the same room would take to install, and the collection sitting in that room. Which repair should I choose? Choose the diagnostic visit and describe what the room and the controller are doing in your own words. The technician works out which of the repairs listed here it comes down to, and only then orders a part or gives you a figure. ### The cellar has two problems at once. Can one visit handle both? Usually, and in a cellar one often causes the other: a door without a proper seal lets humid house air in until the coil ices and the drain overflows, and a clogged condenser makes the compressor run hot until the room drifts warm. The same fan motor can take a short visit on a through-the-wall unit you can slide out of its sleeve and half a day on a ducted unit in a cramped attic or a split system whose evaporator hangs above the racks.
