What !4
actually means.

!4 is a communication alarm: the device that reads temperature and humidity and the main board inside the unit are not exchanging data. The system keeps running while !4 shows, and the code clears by itself once communication returns. A loose or spliced cable, a wireless remote or sensor out of range and a damaged plug are the common causes.

What to do when !4 shows on the wine cellar cooling unit

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Wine Guardian's own guidance for !4 on its wine cellar cooling units. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

If you use a wireless remote or remote sensor, bring it closer to the unit or connect it with the supplied cable.

02

Check both ends of the RJ9 cable for a loose plug, and any splice for a coupler that is not a straight-through type.

03

If !4 stays after the cable is reseated, book a visit to test the voltage on the cable and at the board.

What not to do

Questions
about !4.

Can I clear !4 myself?
If you use a wireless remote or remote sensor, bring it closer to the unit or connect it with the supplied cable. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
Will !4 stop my Wine Guardian from cooling?
No. Wine Guardian keeps the system running during !4, although the readings you see may be stale until communication returns.
Can a spliced cable cause !4 on a Wine Guardian?
Yes. Wine Guardian allows only a straight-through RJ9 coupler for a splice, and the wire colors must match on both sides. A wrong coupler is a common cause.
Does a wireless remote cause !4 more often?
It can, because distance and walls weaken the signal. Moving the remote closer or wiring it with the supplied cable is the first test.

Back to your everyday

Still showing !4?

When you book, type the code or the blink count as the controller shows it, add the full model number, and say what the thermometer in the cellar reads now — that gives the technician a head start.
