What dEF
actually means.
dEF (Def on SC PRO units) is shown while an Anti-Frost cycle runs. When the evaporator probe senses about 26°F, the compressor stops and the fans keep moving air to melt frost from the coil. The unit returns to cooling on its own, and a short wait follows so the compressor does not short-cycle.

What to do when dEF shows on the wine cellar cooling unitKind of codeMode, not a failure
Something the controller was told to do, not a part that wore out: a display switched between Fahrenheit and Celsius so 13 looks alarming, a set point or differential changed by someone leaning on the keys, a keypad lock that ignores every press, a standby state left on after a power cut, a reminder that service is due. The unit is fine, and the controller's own keys or its manual put it back.
Usually leads toNo repair
Leave the unit alone; the cycle ends by itself.
Shows up asCellar Cooling Evaporator Coil Icing Up
A cellar cooling coil icing up shows as white frost behind the cellar-side grille, weak air from the unit, water dripping when it goes quiet, and a room that warms while the unit keeps running.

Before you book,
in this order.
Each step comes from WhisperKOOL's own guidance for dEF on its wine cellar cooling units. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.
Leave the unit alone; the cycle ends by itself.
If the screen shows dEF very often, clean the evaporator filter and check the air paths.
If an Ad2 or Ad3 alarm appears alongside frequent cycles, book a visit.
Cleared?
The controller has stopped showing the code and the cellar is drifting back to its set point without any new part. If the code returns within the week, or the room creeps warm again, book a visit and tell us it came back.
What not to do
dEF is not an error code. It only becomes a problem when cycles time out and log Ad2 or Ad3.
What you may
notice with it.
