What Ad2
actually means.

Ad2 is logged by the digital controller when an Anti-Frost cycle ends on its timer instead of on a warm coil. That usually means ice is building faster than the cycle can clear it: a dirty filter or coil, blocked supply or return air, an evaporator fan that is not running, low refrigerant, or a room the unit exhausts into that is below 60°F.

What to do when Ad2 shows on the wine cellar cooling unit

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from WhisperKOOL's own guidance for Ad2 on its wine cellar cooling units. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Look at the evaporator coil; if it is iced, unplug the unit and let it thaw fully with towels under it before restarting.

02

Clean the evaporator filter and check that nothing blocks the air paths.

03

Check the temperature of the room the unit exhausts into; WhisperKOOL wants it no colder than 60°F.

04

If Anti-Frost cycles keep repeating about once a minute, book a visit.

It usually turns into cellar coil icing and defrost repair. Book with the code and the model number.

What not to do

Ad2 is not the normal defrost message; seeing dEF on the screen is routine. Ad2 means a defrost failed to finish its job, and it lives in the alarm folder.

What you may
notice with it.

Questions
about Ad2.

Can I clear Ad2 myself?
Look at the evaporator coil; if it is iced, unplug the unit and let it thaw fully with towels under it before restarting. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
How can I tell whether low refrigerant is behind Ad2 on my WhisperKOOL?
WhisperKOOL points to the ice pattern: frost only part way up the coil face suggests a low charge, while ice all the way up points to dirt or blocked airflow.
Can a cold garage cause Ad2 on a WhisperKOOL?
Yes. If the space the unit exhausts into falls below 60°F, the coil runs colder and frosts faster.
Is it safe to thaw a WhisperKOOL coil with a hair dryer?
WhisperKOOL's own guide allows a blow dryer until the coil is warm to the touch, with a towel for the water. Unplug the unit first and keep the dryer away from wet areas.

Still showing Ad2?

When you book, type the code or the blink count as the controller shows it, add the full model number, and say what the thermometer in the cellar reads now — that gives the technician a head start.
