What E1
actually means.

E1 means the controller has lost the bottle probe, the sensor in liquid that it normally cools to. The probe may be unplugged at its round connector, loose where it meets the board or controller, or failed. WhisperKOOL's safety logic then runs the compressor on a fixed pattern, off 10 minutes and on 40, so the cellar keeps some cooling while the code stays on the screen.

What to do when E1 shows on the wine cellar cooling unit

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from WhisperKOOL's own guidance for E1 on its wine cellar cooling units. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Find the bottle probe in the cellar and check that its cable is plugged into the round connector on the unit.

02

Follow the cable for a crushed or cut section, especially where it passes racking or a door.

03

Put a thermometer in a bottle of water on a middle rack and check it over a day; the timed cycle can drift warm or cool.

04

If the plug is seated and E1 stays, book a visit to test and replace the probe.

It usually turns into cellar controller and sensor repair. Book with the code and the model number.

What not to do

E1 does not mean the compressor or refrigerant has a problem; the unit is cooling on a timer. It also never shows in the alarm folder: on the digital controller it stays on the main screen until the probe reads again.

What you may
notice with it.

Questions
about E1.

Can I clear E1 myself?
Find the bottle probe in the cellar and check that its cable is plugged into the round connector on the unit. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
Can my WhisperKOOL keep the cellar cool with E1 showing?
For a while, yes. The timed 10-off, 40-on cycle keeps it running, but it cannot correct for a hot day or a full load of warm bottles, so check the room with your own thermometer.
Where is the bottle probe on a WhisperKOOL?
It sits in a small bottle of liquid in the cellar, on a cable that plugs into a round connector on the unit. On the digital controller that cable runs to the PB1 terminal on the circuit board.
Is the WhisperKOOL bottle probe something I can replace myself?
Reseating the plug is easy. Replacing the probe means opening the unit to reach the board terminal on most models, which is best done on a visit.

Back to your everyday

Still showing E1?

When you book, type the code or the blink count as the controller shows it, add the full model number, and say what the thermometer in the cellar reads now — that gives the technician a head start.
