What COH
actually means.

COH is the condenser overheat protection on SC PRO and Slimline LS through-wall units. When the condenser probe reaches 125°F, the controller shuts the compressor off, lights the red alarm and shows COH, and restarts normal operation once the coil falls to 115°F. The cause is almost always the hot side: a dirty condenser, intake air above 85°F or a condenser fan that has stopped.

What to do when COH shows on the wine cellar cooling unit

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from WhisperKOOL's own guidance for COH on its wine cellar cooling units. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Check the room behind the unit; WhisperKOOL wants the intake air no warmer than 85°F.

02

Clean dust from the condenser coil and filter on the exhaust side, with the unit unplugged.

03

Look to see that both condenser fans spin when the unit runs.

04

If COH returns on a cool day with a clean coil, book a visit.

It usually turns into cellar evaporator and condenser fan repair. Book with the code and the model number.

What not to do

COH does not mean the compressor has failed; the compressor is being stopped on purpose. Repeated COH does let the cellar warm, so the cause needs fixing.

What you may
notice with it.

Questions
about COH.

Can I clear COH myself?
Check the room behind the unit; WhisperKOOL wants the intake air no warmer than 85°F. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
Why does my WhisperKOOL SC PRO show COH only in summer?
The room behind the unit gets hotter in summer. Once the intake air passes about 85°F, the condenser cannot shed heat fast enough.
How many condenser fans does a WhisperKOOL SC PRO have?
WhisperKOOL's COH checklist asks you to make sure both condenser fans are working, so a stopped fan is a common cause.
Will COH damage my WhisperKOOL?
COH is the unit protecting its compressor. Running with the cause unfixed means frequent stops and a warmer cellar.

Still showing COH?

When you book, type the code or the blink count as the controller shows it, add the full model number, and say what the thermometer in the cellar reads now — that gives the technician a head start.
