WhisperKOOL wine cellar cooling units,
specifically.

WhisperKOOL sells every layout a cellar can use: SC PRO, Extreme and Slimline units through the wall, Phantom and Extreme tiR units fully ducted, Platinum, Quantum and blow-through splits, and a ceiling-mounted evaporator. Its controllers read a probe sitting in a bottle of liquid rather than the air, so a code on the screen tells us which probe, coil or drain to open first.

The WhisperKOOL lineup

What is particular
to WhisperKOOL.

We work on SC PRO, Extreme ti, Slimline LS and older through-wall units, Phantom and Extreme tiR ducted units, Platinum Split, Quantum and blow-through ducted splits, and the Ceiling Mount evaporators. The model name decides whether the controller shows COH and E3 (SC PRO, Slimline) or EA, E7 and E10 (Platinum, Ceiling Mount, Extreme tiR, Phantom).

A bottle probe, not an air sensor

The controller cools to the temperature of a probe placed in liquid, which is why the cellar air can feel warmer than the setpoint for a while. If that probe fails, the unit switches to a timed cycle of 10 minutes off and 40 minutes on and shows E1.

Anti-Frost cycles on the evaporator

When the evaporator probe reads 26°F, the controller stops the compressor and lets the fans clear frost, and the screen shows a defrost message. A cycle that runs out of time before the coil warms is logged as Ad2 or Ad3, which sends us to airflow and refrigerant charge.

The exhaust space decides the result

WhisperKOOL warns against putting a condenser in a closet or small room, and it rates cooling on the space the unit exhausts into. On many visits the unit is sound and the room behind it is simply too hot.

Splits installed by an HVAC-R technician

WhisperKOOL requires split systems to go in with an HVAC-R technician and a returned warranty checklist. The checklist tells us how the line set was charged and tested, which matters when a split runs warm.

Parts

Probes, fans and controllers are matched to the series; condensing units and coils for split systems are ordered once the first visit has measured the system.

Repair or replace

Probe, fan, drain and controller problems are routine repairs on a WhisperKOOL. A refrigerant leak on a split is worth repairing when the coil and line set can be tested and sealed; a compressor on an older through-wall unit is where we compare repair with replacement.

Questions about
WhisperKOOL wine cellar cooling units.

Why does my WhisperKOOL show a different temperature than my cellar thermometer?
The controller reads a probe in a bottle of liquid, which changes much more slowly than the air. A wall thermometer swings with every door opening, while the probe tracks the wine.
What is the defrost message on a WhisperKOOL screen?
It is an Anti-Frost cycle, started when the evaporator gets cold enough to frost. The compressor rests while the fans run, and the unit goes back to cooling on its own.
My WhisperKOOL alarm icon is on but no code is showing. Where is it?
Several alarms, including the high and low temperature alarms, only appear in the alarm folder of the set menu. Open that folder and note the code before you clear anything.
Can a WhisperKOOL condenser go in a closet?
WhisperKOOL advises against it: a small room heats up and the system loses capacity. The space the unit exhausts into has to stay cool enough for the model you own.
