What E2
actually means.

E2 points at the evaporator probe, the sensor on the cold coil that starts and ends Anti-Frost cycles. Its two-pin plug belongs on the PB2 terminal of the board (or on the back of the controller on SC PRO units). With the probe gone, the controller cannot judge frost on the coil, which is how an unnoticed E2 can end in an iced evaporator.

What to do when E2 shows on the wine cellar cooling unit

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from WhisperKOOL's own guidance for E2 on its wine cellar cooling units. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Check the evaporator through the grille for frost or ice; if ice is building, turn the unit off and let the coil thaw with towels under it.

02

Note whether the unit is still cooling the cellar normally.

03

Book a visit to reseat or replace the evaporator probe; the unit has to be opened to reach it.

Still there?

It usually turns into cellar controller and sensor repair. Book with the code and the model number.

What not to do

E2 is not the bottle probe that controls the cellar temperature; that one reports as E1. An E2 on its own rarely warms the cellar at first, but ice can build if it is left for weeks.

What you may
notice with it.

The wine cellar cooling unit problems E2 tends to arrive with. Answer these at the wine cellar cooling unit before anyone is booked.

Questions
about E2.

Can I clear E2 myself?
Check the evaporator through the grille for frost or ice; if ice is building, turn the unit off and let the coil thaw with towels under it. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
Does E2 stop my WhisperKOOL from cooling?
Not directly. The unit keeps cooling on the bottle probe, but it has lost the reading it uses to control defrost.
Why would the WhisperKOOL evaporator probe come loose?
The two-pin plug can work loose after vibration or service work inside the unit, and the wire can be pinched when a panel is refitted.
What happens if I ignore E2 on a WhisperKOOL?
The coil can frost over without an Anti-Frost cycle to clear it, and an iced coil moves less air and can overflow the drain pan.

Still showing E2?

When you book, type the code or the blink count as the controller shows it, add the full model number, and say what the thermometer in the cellar reads now — that gives the technician a head start.
