A thin temperature probe lead taped along the side of a wooden wine rack in a cellar, its small metal tip hanging among unlabeled bottles, the wire running up toward the cooling unit's grille.

What P1
actually means.

P1 means the probe that tells the controller how warm the cellar is has stopped reading properly. Rather than stop, the controller cycles the compressor on a timer set by its Con and CoF parameters (15 minutes on and 30 off by default in the HZD and SSD manuals), and the alarm clears a few seconds after the probe reads normally again.

What to do when P1 shows on the wine cellar cooling unit

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Wine-Mate's own guidance for P1 on its wine cellar cooling units. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Check the cellar with a separate thermometer, since on the timer the room can drift away from your setpoint.

02

Wine-Mate asks for the probe connections to be checked before the probe is replaced; with the power off, look for a loose plug or a damaged cord you can reach safely.

03

If a bottle probe is fitted, make sure it is still in its bottle and not pinched in a door or rack.

04

If P1 stays, book a visit to test the probe and the controller input.

What not to do

P1 does not mean the cellar is out of temperature; that is what HA and LA report. It does not stop cooling either, because the timer keeps the compressor cycling.

Questions
about P1.

Can I clear P1 myself?
Check the cellar with a separate thermometer, since on the timer the room can drift away from your setpoint. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
Is my Wine-Mate still cooling with P1 on the display?
Yes, on a fixed schedule rather than by temperature. Whether that holds the room near 55°F depends on the season and the load, so keep an eye on a separate thermometer.
Why does P1 come and go on my Wine-Mate?
The alarm starts a few seconds after the probe misreads and clears a few seconds after it recovers. A pattern of on and off points toward a connection that makes and breaks rather than a probe that has died.
Can I change the timer a Wine-Mate uses during P1?
The on and off times are the Con and CoF parameters in the settings menu. Change them only to keep the room steady until the probe is repaired, and write down the original values first.

Back to your everyday

Still showing P1?

When you book, type the code or the blink count as the controller shows it, add the full model number, and say what the thermometer in the cellar reads now — that gives the technician a head start.
