A thin temperature probe lead taped along the side of a wooden wine rack in a cellar, its small metal tip hanging among unlabeled bottles, the wire running up toward the cooling unit's grille.

Breezaire Er: the Sentry III has lost its temperature sensor

Er means the Sentry III can no longer trust the sensor it regulates from, the intake air sensor or a bottle probe if one is plugged in, so it stops cooling.

What Er
actually means.

Er means the Sentry III can no longer trust the sensor it regulates from, the intake air sensor or a bottle probe if one is plugged in, so it stops cooling. Breezaire lets the owner run the unit by hand in the meantime: COOLER turns it on and WARMER turns it off, each with the 5-minute compressor delay.

What to do when Er shows on the wine cellar cooling unit

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Breezaire's own guidance for Er on its wine cellar cooling units. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

If a bottle probe is fitted, check that its plug is fully seated, because the controller reads the probe in place of the air sensor.

02

To keep the cellar cool until the repair, press COOLER to start the unit by hand and WARMER to stop it, allowing for the 5-minute delay each time.

03

Watch the room on a separate thermometer while running by hand, since nothing is regulating the temperature.

04

Book a visit to test the sensor and its wiring.

What not to do

Er does not say the cellar is warm or cold; it says the controller cannot tell. LO and HI appear when the sensor still answers but reads below 32°F or above 99°F.

What you may
notice with it.

Questions
about Er.

Can I clear Er myself?
If a bottle probe is fitted, check that its plug is fully seated, because the controller reads the probe in place of the air sensor. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
Can I leave a Breezaire running by hand after Er?
Only as a stopgap. In manual operation the controller is not switching the unit off at your setpoint, so check the temperature often and stop the unit with WARMER if the room gets too cold.
Could a bottle probe be behind Er on my Breezaire?
It is worth checking. Once a probe is plugged in, the Sentry III reads it instead of the intake air sensor, so the probe and its plug become the first suspects.
Will a reset clear Er on a Breezaire?
A manual reset, holding WARMER for at least 5 seconds, restarts the controller and keeps your settings. If the sensor itself has failed, Er comes straight back and the sensor or its connection has to be replaced.

Still showing Er?

When you book, type the code or the blink count as the controller shows it, add the full model number, and say what the thermometer in the cellar reads now — that gives the technician a head start.
