What AL
actually means.

AL flashes in turn with the temperature once the cellar climbs above the alarm point stored in the Sentry III. The unit keeps cooling during the alarm; only if the room keeps warming to 75°F does the overheat protection step in.

What to do when AL shows on the wine cellar cooling unit

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Breezaire's own guidance for AL on its wine cellar cooling units. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Keep the cellar door shut and check the room with a separate thermometer at bottle height.

02

Make sure the alarm point has not been set lower than you meant; it is in the settings reached by holding SET for more than 5 seconds.

03

Clear anything in front of the exhaust grille and look at the condenser coil for dust.

04

If the room keeps rising toward 70°F, move the most valuable bottles and book a visit.

Still there?

It usually turns into cellar cooling load and room check. Book with the code and the model number.

What not to do

AL is a warning, not a shutdown, and the unit is still trying to cool. If the display is flashing OH instead, the unit has switched itself off.

What you may
notice with it.

In Breezaire's own words

the display will alternately flash “AL” and the temperature if the storage temperature rises above a preset alarm temperature.

Every code on this site is taken from the manufacturer's documentation, never from a forum or a parts listing. Sentry III and Sentry III Plus controllers on WKL through-the-wall units and WKSL split systems. Older WKS splits built before mid-2010 used a manual thermostat and show none of these codes.

Questions
about AL.

Can I clear AL myself?
Keep the cellar door shut and check the room with a separate thermometer at bottle height. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
Can I change the temperature at which a Breezaire shows AL?
Yes. Hold SET for more than 5 seconds, press SET to step through until the display flashes AL, then adjust with WARMER or COOLER. The factory value is 62°F.
Why does my Breezaire show AL after the door was left open?
An open door lets warm air in faster than the unit can remove it, so the room can pass the alarm point quickly. If the display settles back to a plain temperature within a few hours of closing the door, the unit is keeping up.
Does AL stop my Breezaire from cooling?
No, Breezaire says the unit keeps running in the alarm state. It only shuts down if the cellar reaches 75°F, which the display then reports as OH.

Back to your everyday

Still showing AL?

When you book, type the code or the blink count as the controller shows it, add the full model number, and say what the thermometer in the cellar reads now — that gives the technician a head start.
