What AL1
actually means.

AL1 is the low temperature alarm on the bottle probe, set at the same spread as AH1 for each model (4°F on most current manuals, 8°F on some). It usually means the unit has kept cooling longer than it should, or that the cellar sits in a cold space. WhisperKOOL coolers do not heat, so a cold room has to be warmed from outside the unit.

What to do when AL1 shows on the wine cellar cooling unit

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from WhisperKOOL's own guidance for AL1 on its wine cellar cooling units. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Check whether the snowflake is lit; if the unit is cooling while the wine is already cold, turn it off and book a visit.

02

If the cellar is cold because of the season, add gentle heat to the room until the wine returns to the setpoint.

03

Compare the probe with a thermometer in a bottle of water; a calibration offset may be needed.

Still there?

It usually turns into cellar cooling load and room check. Book with the code and the model number.

What not to do

AL1 is not a refrigerant problem. If the compressor is off and the room is simply cold, the unit is working as designed.

Questions
about AL1.

Can I clear AL1 myself?
Check whether the snowflake is lit; if the unit is cooling while the wine is already cold, turn it off and book a visit. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
Can a WhisperKOOL warm my cellar if AL1 appears?
No. WhisperKOOL cooling units only cool; the manual has you add heat to the room itself.
Why would a WhisperKOOL keep cooling past its setpoint?
A probe out of its bottle, a probe reading wrong or a stuck compressor relay can all do it. That is worth a visit.
Does AL1 harm the wine in a WhisperKOOL cellar?
A few degrees for a short time is not a concern. Bring the room back up steadily.

Still showing AL1?

When you book, type the code or the blink count as the controller shows it, add the full model number, and say what the thermometer in the cellar reads now — that gives the technician a head start.
