What E3
actually means.
E3 appears on SC PRO and Slimline LS through-wall units, whose controller also measures the condenser coil. That reading drives the COH protection that stops the compressor when the coil runs hot. With E3 showing, the controller can no longer see the condenser temperature, so that protection is blind.

What to do when E3 shows on the wine cellar cooling unitKind of codeSensors and probes
The controller has lost a sensible reading from one of its probes: the one sampling the cellar air, the one on the evaporator coil, or on a remote probe the lead that runs out to a rack. With no number it can trust, the unit may chill the room well below 55°F, stop and start every few minutes, or run on without end. A probe unplugged during a rack install, pinched behind a board or sitting in a draft from the door is ruled out before a new one is ordered.

Getting the controller, its display and its probes to read the cellar truthfully and call for cooling at the right time.
Shows up asCellar Cooling Unit Exhaust Overheating
A cellar cooling unit exhaust overheating makes the room on the other side of the wall uncomfortably warm, blows hot air hard enough to feel from across the room, and often makes the unit stop and restart in the afternoon.

Before you book,
in this order.
Each step comes from WhisperKOOL's own guidance for E3 on its wine cellar cooling units. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.
Make sure the exhaust side of the unit is clear and the room behind it is not hot, since the unit cannot warn you about it now.
Check that the unit is still cooling the cellar.
Book a visit to check the condenser probe connection at the back of the controller and replace the probe if it has failed.

It usually turns into cellar controller and sensor repair. Book with the code and the model number.
What not to do
E3 is not a sign that the condenser is overheating; that is COH. On WhisperKOOL split and ducted models the digital controller does not use E3 at all.
What you may

Split-system cellar cooling
An evaporator inside or beside the cellar and a condensing unit outside or in another room, joined by an insulated copper line set and charged on site.
