CellarPro wine cellar cooling units,
specifically.

CellarPro, built in Cotati, California, makes self-contained 1800 and VS units that go through the wall and can be ducted, plus split systems with wall-mounted, ceiling-mounted and ducted air-handler evaporators. Its control panel flashes short codes such as HA2 or P1 with a red light and a tone, and each one points at a probe or a coil we can test directly.

The CellarPro lineup

What is particular
to CellarPro.

We work on the 1800 series, VS and VE self-contained units, and CellarPro split systems with wall-mounted, recessed ceiling-mount and ducted air-handler evaporators. Self-contained and split models share the same alarm codes, though HA2 and LA2 refer to a condenser that sits outdoors or in another room on a split.

A separate probe on the condenser

CellarPro measures the condenser coil as well as the cellar, which gives it two condenser alarms, HA2 and LA2. An HA2 tells us the heat is not leaving the back of the unit before the cellar itself has warmed.

A timed fallback when the cellar probe fails

If probe 1 fails, the unit keeps cooling on a fixed 12 minutes on and 8 minutes off. The cellar usually stays near the setpoint, which buys time to book the repair without moving bottles.

Scheduled defrost every 16 hours

The controller runs a 20-minute defrost every 16 hours and lights a defrost indicator while it does. An owner who notices the fan running with no cooling during that window is seeing a normal cycle.

Through the wall, with ducts when needed

The 1800 series is designed for a wall opening with the back of the unit in a room at least as large as the cellar, or ducted up to 50 equivalent feet per duct. Clearance behind the unit is the first thing we measure.

Parts

Probes, fans and control panels are ordered by model; split-system condensing units and evaporator coils are matched after the first visit.

Repair or replace

Probe and airflow alarms on a CellarPro are routine repairs. A repeated HA2 on a unit whose room and coil check out calls for a sealed-system test before repair and replacement are compared.

Questions about
CellarPro wine cellar cooling units.

Why didn't my new CellarPro alarm while the cellar was still warm?
CellarPro disables the HA and LA temperature alarms for the first 23 hours after the unit is plugged in or turned on, so pull-down does not set them off. After that the alarms work normally.
What does HA2 mean on a CellarPro?
It means the condenser coil has run above 140°F for too long. Most often the unit cannot get enough cool air at the back, from a dirty coil or filter, a blocked vent or a hot room.
Why is my CellarPro dripping water?
CellarPro links overflow to a unit that runs constantly, a setpoint set too low or a cellar that is not sealed. Raising the setpoint and sealing the door often cures it; if it keeps dripping, book a visit.
How much space does a CellarPro need behind it?
CellarPro asks that the rear of a through-the-wall unit face a space at least as large as the cellar, with at least 8 inches of clearance front and back, unless the rear is ducted.
