CellarPro P3: the condenser probe has failed

P3 is CellarPro's condenser probe, the sensor behind the HA2 and LA2 alarms and behind the shutdown that stops the compressor when the condenser runs over 140°F (standard on VS units, optional on the 1800).

What P3
actually means.

P3 is CellarPro's condenser probe, the sensor behind the HA2 and LA2 alarms and behind the shutdown that stops the compressor when the condenser runs over 140°F (standard on VS units, optional on the 1800). When the probe fails, the panel flashes P3 and the unit loses those protections, though it keeps cooling the cellar on probe 1.

What to do when P3 shows on the wine cellar cooling unit

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from CellarPro's own guidance for P3 on its wine cellar cooling units. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Confirm the cellar is holding its setpoint.

02

Keep the exhaust side clear and the room behind the unit as cool as you can, since the unit can no longer warn you about a hot condenser.

03

Book a visit to replace the condenser probe.

Still there?

It usually turns into cellar controller and sensor repair. Book with the code and the model number.

What not to do

P3 does not mean the condenser is overheating; that would be HA2. It means the reading itself is missing.

What you may
notice with it.

The wine cellar cooling unit problems P3 tends to arrive with. Answer these at the wine cellar cooling unit before anyone is booked.

Questions
about P3.

Can I clear P3 myself?
Confirm the cellar is holding its setpoint. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
Is P3 on a CellarPro urgent?
Not for the wine right away, since cooling continues. It removes the unit's view of its own condenser, so it should be fixed soon.
Where is the P3 probe on a CellarPro?
It measures the condenser coil at the rear of the unit, on the exhaust side.
Can P3 cause HA2 on a CellarPro?
A probe reading wrong could trigger false condenser alarms. A failed probe normally shows P3 instead.

Still showing P3?

When you book, type the code or the blink count as the controller shows it, add the full model number, and say what the thermometer in the cellar reads now — that gives the technician a head start.
