What E2
actually means.

E2 on a CellarCool Ceiling Mount, split or Ultimate unit names the evaporator probe, plugged into the PB2 terminal of the circuit board. The controller uses it to start Anti-Frost cycles at about 26°F. Without it, frost can pile up on the coil unnoticed, and the first thing an owner sees may be weaker airflow or water under the unit.

What to do when E2 shows on the wine cellar cooling unit

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from CellarCool's own guidance for E2 on its wine cellar cooling units. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Look at the evaporator coil for frost; if ice has formed, switch the unit off and let it melt, protecting racks and floor from the water.

02

Keep an eye on the cellar temperature, which the bottle probe still controls.

03

Book a visit to reseat or replace the evaporator probe inside the unit.

Still there?

It usually turns into cellar controller and sensor repair. Book with the code and the model number.

What not to do

E2 is not the cellar temperature probe, so the setpoint still holds at first. The risk grows over days, as the coil ices without a defrost trigger.

What you may
notice with it.

Questions
about E2.

Can I clear E2 myself?
Look at the evaporator coil for frost; if ice has formed, switch the unit off and let it melt, protecting racks and floor from the water. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
Can CellarCool E2 lead to a water leak?
It can. An evaporator that ices without defrosting eventually melts in one go, and the drain pan may not keep up.
Does the CellarCool CX series show E2?
No. The CX alarm table lists only E1, AH1 and AL1.
Is replacing a CellarCool evaporator probe a big job?
It is a small part, but it sits inside the unit on the circuit board terminal, so the unit has to be opened.

Back to your everyday

Still showing E2?

When you book, type the code or the blink count as the controller shows it, add the full model number, and say what the thermometer in the cellar reads now — that gives the technician a head start.
